Abandoned Silos, Tom’s River NJ

Abandoned Silos, Tom’s River NJ

History:

Not much is known about the history of the Tom’s River Silos. Clearly they are from an old farm land, but what confuses me is that all the surrounding land is sand. How was there a farm with all of that sandy soil? Not only that, but there are thirteen silos that is a lot to have; typically farms only have 2 or 3 at the most.

Overall:

Thirteen cement silos stand tall and proud in the thick pine forest. It is not known that they are there until you are right on top of them. Openings in the side of the silos reveal small chambers usually scattered with garbage and graffiti.

Scattered behind the silos are ruins of building as well and what seems to be underground entrances, to what, I am not sure.

Not too far from them are a maze of dirt bike paths, but also not too far from them is a neighborhood; these silos are practically in people backyards.

How to Get Back There:

You will have to park on the street and take a short walk. Navigating through the maze of dirt bike paths might get confusing, but don’t give up. Below is a rough map of how to navigate through the woods.
